What Is Auto Insurance?

Auto insurance or vehicle insurance is purchased for cars, motorcycles, trucks and other vehicles you use on the road.  Its main goal is to aid you with your financial needs and responsibilities from the physical damages and/or injuries that have resulted from collisions in traffic including the liabilities you have to deal with.  It’s just like the insurance that you purchase for yourself only in this case, you purchase it for your car.

This form of insurance is required by law in many areas and it is best that you somehow familiarize yourself with how it works and the many types that of insurances that can work to your benefit.  A single insurance is actually a package of various types of insurances that is offered to any drivers and their cars and here are those types:

  • Liability – This form of coverage pays for all the injuries and damages to properties that you have caused other people.  Damages resulting to injuries will cover medical bills, sufferings, pain and loss of wages while damages to properties include the car and other properties.  This coverage will also be able to help you pay for defense and costs on courts when a lawsuit is filed.
  • Comprehensive – It pays for any damage or loss of the vehicle that was not a result of an accident.  This covers those vehicles damaged or lost from fire, hail, vandalism, flood or theft.
  • Collision – It pays for the damages caused by collisions with other vehicles or objects.
  • PIP – Also known as Personal Injury Protection, it will help you pay for the medical expenses for drivers who are insured whoever is at fault for any necessary treatments from a vehicular accident.
  • Rental Reimbursement – This coverage pays for the car you have rented if ever it gets damaged from an accident.
  • Uninsured Motorist – Pays for the damages done to your car by a driver who has no liability insurance.
  • Underinsured Motorist – Helps in paying for damages in a vehicular accident caused by those who have insurance that is not sufficient to cover for the damages done.

Auto insurance companies offer a number if not all of the types in one package.  Although you can still add on some more, it would be up to you if you can pay for the premium that the insurance package requires.  Although it is the state, city or area that requires the minimum amount of insurance coverage that you need to have, it would still be your choice to go for the extra coverage and expenses when you think of the possibilities that might happen in the future.  Think of it as a long term investment for when you are involved in any vehicular accidents.

There are a lot of benefits that can turn out from a single insurance policy.  Although it is best to prevent accidents from happening, staying in the safe side of road situation is still an advise you need to take since it would be such a letdown if you get into an accident and be billed with thousands of dollars worth of expenses you need to pay for.
